Dr.
Allan B. Becker - Following
graduation from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba (1969),
Dr. Becker practised Family Medicine in Dauphin, Manitoba from 1970
until 1980. He then returned to the University of Manitoba from
1980-83 for training in Pediatrics and from 1983-85 in Allergy &
Clinical Immunology at the Cardiovascular Research Institute, University
of California, San Francisco and the University of Manitoba. Dr.
Becker is a professor in the Section of Allergy & Clinical
Immunology, Department of Pediatrics & Child Health at the
University of Manitoba and a consultant allergist at Children's Hospital
of Winnipeg.
Dr. Becker is Past-President of the
Canadian Society of Allergy & Clinical Immunology and Chair of the
Programming Planning Committee. Dr. Becker is Vice-President of
the Canadian Network for Asthma Care and chairs the Management Committee
for the Canadian Asthma Educator Certification program. He is a
member of the Program Committee for the Allergy Immunology and
Inflammation Section of the American Thoracic Society. He is a
member of the Asthma Committee of the Thoracic Society and was a Core
Committee and Writing Committee Member of the Canadian Asthma Consensus
Report 1999 and the Asthma Guidelines Update 2001.
Dr. Becker's primary research interest is
the interrelationship of allergy, asthma and the environment. He
is co-principal investigator of "A Multi-Centre Study on the
Efficacy of an Intervention Program to Prevent the Development of Asthma
in High-Risk Infants". Dr. Becker is also very involved with
Asthma Education and has contributed to development of a Prairie Asthma
Educator Education program. He is principal investigator for
evaluation of the Children's Asthma Education Project in Manitoba.
